Women in Dance Leadership Conference is a 3-4 day biennial international conference that presents keynote speech, panel discussions, movement workshops, dance on film screenings, scholarly paper presentations, individual speeches, and live concerts. The goals of this conference are 1) to continue the discussions about how to promote more female leadership in dance and related fields; 2) to provide a platform for female dance artists and scholars to present their work and receive feedback on their work; 3) to provide presenters an unique opportunity to view diverse and innovative work created by female artists.
The inaugural conference took place from October 29th, 2015 – November 1st, 2015 at the Shaw Center for the Arts, Manship Theatre, Baton Rouge, LA, U.S.A. by collaborating with Arts Council of the Greater Baton Rouge and Manship Theatre.
The second conference was from January 18th to January 20th, 2018 in New York City, and the hosts of the conference were New York University Tisch School of the Arts and Danspace Project.
Women in Dance L.L.C. will host the 2019 conference from October 17th – 19th in Philadelphia, PA at Drexel University.
Women in Dance would like to continue to bring the conference to different locations in the U.S. and the world by presenting regional, national, and international conferences. Through keynote speech, panel discussions, master classes, creative process sessions, film screenings, and live performances, Women in Dance Leadership Conference aims to investigate, explore, and reflect on women’s leadership by inviting world-renowned dance makers/ artists /scholars /directors to present at the conference.
